National Table tennis team victory

Manama : Bahrain had a strong impact at the Second West Asian Championships, which took place in Amman, from March 29 to April 1 at the Princess Sumaya Hall.

The nationals took four medals in total (1 gold, 2 silver, 1 bronze) in four of the eight age categories during the four-day tournament.

Over 150 players across different age groups represented 10 Arab countries at the event, including Iraq, UAE, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Lebanon, Syria, Oman, Bahrain and host nation Jordan.

Bahrain’s gold medal was won in the women’s cadet section, beating Iraq and Jordan, who took the silver and bronze, respectively.

The remaining honours include silver in the men’s and under-14 events, in addition to winning the junior bronze medal.

Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar led a delegation of top sports officials to welcome members of the Bahrain teams on return.

Askar congratulated the players on their results, which underlines the development of table tennis in the country and the ability of the Bahraini athletes to compete with the best candidates on the regional level.

He conveyed the greetings and congratulations of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and committee president to the team, and his best wishes for them in future competitions.
