Bahrain Medical Society elects new board

Manama : Bahrain Medical Society (BMS) yesterday elected its new board of directors at the society’s headquarter in Juffair.

Dr Ghada Qassim was named as the new Chairperson of the board, while Dr Manaf Al Qahtani was elected as the Deputy Chairman, Dr Nizar Bukamal as the General Secretary and Dr Shaikh Salman bin Mohammed bin Abdulla Al Khalifa as the Financial Secretary.

Other board members were Dr Rani Al Agha, Dr Amal Al Ghanim and Dr Nawal Ibrahim.

At the new board’s general assembly yesterday, the board reviewed the financial and literary reports of the society and discussed means to enhance the performance of the society. 

Several matters that concern Bahraini doctors, such as continuous medical training, medical permits and licenses, employment and empowering doctors of the private sector were also reviewed.

In her first statement as Chairperson, Dr Al Qassim affirmed that the new board will soon announce a new strategy to enhance the quality of medical services in the Kingdom.

On his part, Dr Al Qahtani said BMS will focus on contributing to the training of the Bahraini medical cadre by organising workshops and conferences.

It’s noteworthy that BMS was founded in 1972 and was re-registered in 1992. According to the society’s official website, BMS represents all physicians working in the kingdom with a total of 1, 800 active members. Board of Directors of BMS are elected every two years.
