National Sailing team triumph

ManamaBahrain’s national sailing team made a solid impact at the Arab Sailing Championships (Laser radial and Laser standard), which the kingdom hosted recently.

Abdulla Janahi was in a superb form for Bahrain, taking home the laser standard gold medal. Dawood Abdulla, another Bahraini entrant, clinched the silver medal in the laser radial, while Abdul Rahim captured the competition’s bronze.

The result saw Bahrain top the tournament with three medals in total. They were followed by Oman in second place (1 gold), Egypt third (1 gold), Algeria (2 silver) fourth and Kuwait (1 bronze) fifth.

Following the results, the team were received by Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) general secretary Abdulrahman Askar at the committee’s premises in Seef.

Askar commended the achievement of the Bahraini team in this five-day championship, and expressed pride to see his nation come on top despite fierce challenge from best sailors from Egypt and Algeria.

Askar also conveyed the congratulations of HH Shaikh Nasser in Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of His Majesty for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and BOC president, to all members of the team, and his best wishes for them in future events.

On his part, Bahrain Maritime Sports Federation vice-president Noman Al Hasan expressed pleasure and satisfaction for the overall performance, and thanked the BOC for its continued support to the federation.
