Gulf national jailed for insulting judge
Manama : The First High Criminal Court has sentenced a man to one-year imprisonment for insulting a judge and assaulting a policeman inside the court.
The incident took place on November 8, 2017, when the 45-year-old Gulf national verbally assaulted the judge while discussing the settlement of a civil case he was involved in.
According to court files, the defendant apparently owed another man an amount of money and refused to pay, and when the judge informed him about the amount he insulted him and made an inappropriate hand gesture.
The defendant also attacked a policeman who was escorting him outside the court as per the judge’s orders. He was handcuffed and controlled by two other policemen.
The man was referred to the Public Prosecution, which accused him of assaulting and injuring an on-duty public security officer and insulting an on-duty judge.
