Marine cartography agreement signed

ManamaSurvey and Land Registration Bureau (SLRB) has signed an agreement with the United Kingdom Hydrographic Office (UKHO).

SLRB Chairman Shaikh Salman bin Abdulla bin Hamad Al-Khalifa signed the deal, in the presence of British Ambassador to the Kingdom of Bahrain Simon Martin.  Under the agreement, the hydrographic and marine geospatial maps issued in Bahrain would be promoted and sold worldwide. Training programmes would also be provided for Bahraini personnel in cartography. The two sides also exchanged data on developing Bahrain’s maritime maps, paving the way for their accreditation by the International Hydrographic Organization.

The accredited maps will bolster confidence and secure navigation from and to Bahrain. Bahrain and the UK signed the first edition of the cooperation agreement in 2000. The signing ceremony was attended by Foreign Ministry Undersecretary for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdulla bin Ahmed Al-Khalifa, SLEB director-general Naji Sabt and SRLB director Rashid Al-Suweidi.
