Sea floor clean up at Najwa
Manama : A campaign will be launched on Saturday to clean up the sea floor at the Najwa Boulthama natural reserve.
The Supreme Council for the Environment (SCE) will conduct the clean-up in cooperation with the United Nations (UN) Environment Programme, the Agriculture and Marine Resources Agency and the General Coastguard Directorate.
Professional divers have also volunteered to take part in the clean-up as part of SCE-led efforts to meet the goals of the Clean Seas global campaign on marine litter.
SCE Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina stressed the importance of conserving maritime wildlife, coral reefs and the oyster beds and preserving the longstanding
pearl heritage.
“The divers will clean up the sea floor and remove the waste, litter and banned fishing equipment which damage the coral reefs and maritime biodiversity,” said Dr. bin Daina.
