Shaikh Nasser gets hero’s welcome
Manama : HH Shaikh Nasser Bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Representative for His Majesty the King for Charity Works and Youth Affairs, Supreme Council for Youth and Sports Chairman, and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee, yesterday was given a grand reception after returning home from Texas, in the US, after a remarkable finish at the Ironman North American Championship.
HH Shaikh Nasser, put up a spirited show with solid performance to top the under- 49 age category race, which covered 140.6 miles, in 9 hours, 6 minutes and 52 seconds.
HH Shaikh Nasser, captain of the Bahrain Endurance Team, competed along with team members Brent McMahon and David Plese. The Iron Man North American Championship saw 17,500 athletes from across the United States and the world, take part.
Supreme Council for Youth and Sports assistant general secretary and BOC general secretary Abdulrahman Askar led a special reception of high-ranking sports officials to congratulate HH Shaikh Nasser. Askar described this great sporting achievement as a result of the support offered by the leadership and adds to the series of the previous sports achievements made by HH Shaikh Nasser for Bahrain.
“Shaikh Nasser’s sports achievements stand for an exemplary model that will inspire Bahraini youth and embolden them to participate in sports championships and raise the Kingdom’s flag at international sporting events,” said Askar. Askar said HH Shaikh Nasser’s achievement embodies his determination to constantly promote Bahrain’s international sports standing, highlighting the support of His Majesty King Hamad of national youth and athletes.
