Tomorrow is World Press Freedom Day
Manama : Bahrain will join the rest of the world to celebrate the World Press Freedom Day tomorrow.
The term Fourth Estate was used as a reference to journalists by Edmund Burke who was an Irish statesman. Burke, after moving to London in 1750 served as a member of parliament in the House of Commons. Burke said there were Three Estates in Parliament; but, in the Reporters’ Gallery yonder, there sat a Fourth Estate more important far than they all.
The freedom of expression was promoted with the democratization process that was initiated in Bahrain since the year 2001.
This led to an increase in the number of newspapers and journalists today say they celebrate this occasion with pride towards the changes that have occurred in the country in the past 17 years.
Daily Tribune spoke to several journalists about the role they have been playing in promoting the freedom of expression based on their belief in the power of the press. Read on.
