House to discuss fund to deport bankrupt expats

Manama : The Council of Representatives is planning to discuss in its weekly meeting this Tuesday the establishment of a special official fund to financially support bankrupt expats and deport them.

This comes as the council will review a bill proposed by MP Hamad Al Dossary to amend Article 26 of The Immigration and Naturalisation Act of 1965.Al Dossary proposed to establish a special government fund that is dedicated to allocating five per cent of all entrance, residency and other related fees imposed on non-Bahrainis to support expats who are proven to be bankrupt and unable of affording to travel back home.

The bill was passed by the Legislative and Legal Affairs Committee stating that it is in line with the Kingdom’s constitution. However, the Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Committee rejected it, while the Interior Ministry, had reservations on the proposed law.
