Preparations in full swing for world heritage meet

Manama : Bahrain is stepping up preparations to host the 42nd meeting of the World Heritage Committee late next month. Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA) held a meeting with ambassadors and heads of diplomatic missions at the Bahrain National Museum and briefed them about the upcoming global event, scheduled to be held from June 24-July4 at a special tent which will be setup at the Ritz Carlton Bahrain Hotel in Manama. 

BACA President Shaikha Mai bint Mohammed Al-Khalifa attended the session along with Arab and foreign ambassadors, specialized experts and officials in charge of the organization. Addressing the meeting, BACA president said that the event would be attended by more than 1500 experts and specialists and representatives of countries worldwide. 

BACA Advisor Dr. Mounir Bouchnaki said that the upcoming event represents one of the most importance meetings convened by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). “The 42nd meeting, which will be chaired by Shaikha Haya bint Rashid Al-Khalifa, will be held as the world heritage in some parts of the Arab World face mounting difficulties”, he said.

He pointed out that two forums would be held on the sidelines, adding that a rich programme had been lined-up including field visits to heritage sites, including the Bahrain Fort and the Pearl Trail, which feature both on the UNESCO List of World Heritage Sites.
