First ever Baby Olympic Games hosted

Manama : Nursery’s and kindergartens Kids from all over Bahrain’s engaged in a variety of sports contests for the third successive day at the First Bahrain Baby Olympics, held at Isa Sports City in Riffa.

The event, brought to Bahrain for the first time by the Bahrain Olympic Committee in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Ministry of Labour and Social Developments, hoped to instill a culture of sport within children and developing their mental and  physical abilities.

The most recent action also featured a gymnastics contest at the Bahrain Table Tennis Association hall, where kindergarten kids aged 4 to 5 years competed it out in the free body expression. At the end of the activities, BOC secretary general Abdulrahman Askar, along with Bahrain’s Attorney General Dr. Ali bin Fadhel Al Buainain, Bahrain Football Association women’s committee chairwoman Shaikha Hessa bint Khalid Al Khalifa, Bahrain Table Tennis Association general secretary Ebrahim Siyadi, presented medals to all the participants.

Meanwhile, participating nurseries and kindergartens have shared their joy for being part of the first-ever Bahrain Baby Olympics this year. Celeste Suarez of Masabeeh Al Amal Preschool hailed the step undertaken by the Bahrain Olympic Committee to launch the First Baby Olympics  in cooperation with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development, and the Ministry of Education.

She noted the positive implications of this trend in creating a healthy generation of athletes, thus contributing to add more hero athletes representing the Kingdom at international competitions. 

“It is very important that we have similar events running here for their positive benefits of creating a new generation with awareness on the importance of sport and its impact on health, body, mind and personality in general,” said Suarez. On her part, Al Shorooq Preschool’s Kniazeva Natallia said she is pleased for taking part in this first-of- its kind event in Bahrain, and noted that the Olympics would assist the kids in developing their overall capabilities.

“We encourage our children to participate in Bahrain Baby Olympics. Because, we trust children’s abilities in different aspects. We believe that the event will inspire our kids to learn about teamwork, dedication and the power of practice,”she said.

“This is not only the first of its kind in the Kingdom, but perhaps in the Arab world too, which has many key goals of promoting a culture of sport within children and developing their mental and physical abilities.”
