Dissolved society members may be barred from polls
Manama : The Shura Council is expected to go ahead with its draft law, in its session to be held on Sunday, to ban leaders and members of political societies dissolved by court for violating Constitution and laws from participating in the upcoming parliament elections.
The legislative committee of the Shura council explained that the proposed ban to include both leaders and members of political societies that were dissolved by a court ruling for violating the provisions of the Constitution and the laws of the Kingdom. In its report, the committee pointed out that the main objective of this draft law is to achieve the public interest. Leaders and members of dissolved political societies are of the same danger as persons belonging to secret organisations or prohibited by law, it observed.
The Ministry of Justice and Islamic Affairs has agreed to the aim of the draft law, which seeks to ensure the representation of the people in the parliament by choosing the best candidates by preventing the nomination of leaders and members of dissolved political societies by virtue of a court for violating the constitution and laws.
