Bahraini prisoner attacks officer for a puff of smoke.
A Bahraini man convicted in a murder case attacked guards at Jau Prison out of his desperation to smoke cigarettes, court files revealed. The defendant is serving a life sentence for killing another man, and now will stand another trial for his latest crime. According to court documents, the inmate attacked two guards as they were escorting him to jail clinic for medical examination. “The convict had stolen cigarettes from other inmates. After medical examination, he wanted to go to the smoking room and when we discovered the stolen cigarettes from him, he got angry and began attacking us,” said a policeman, who was on duty. One policeman was injured in the attack. The Bahraini man was supposed to appear before the High Criminal Court on Sunday, but the case adjourned until May 29 as he failed to appear before court.
