Bahrain’s top court, rejected the appeal of a Bangladeshi man, who was jailed for 15 years on grounds of smuggling marijuana and narcotic pills.

The Cassation Court, Bahrain’s top court, rejected the appeal of a Bangladeshi man, who was jailed for 15 years on grounds of smuggling marijuana and narcotic pills. The defendant was earlier slapped with life imprisonment along with a fine of BD5,000. However, the High Criminal Appeals Court reduced his jail time to 15 years behind bars on appeal. But he still challenged the verdict before the Cassation Court, which declined it.   According to court details, police found the drugs in a package that arrived from outside the Kingdom, which was also containing spare parts of motorbikes. Police officers contacted the Bangladeshi man whose name was registered under the package.  And according to court files, the marijuana was weighing three kilograms and had a value of almost BD30,000, while the number of the pills was 505. Prosecutors said that the defendant would have peddled the drugs in Bahrain. The defendant will be expelled from Bahrain once he completes his jail time.
