Sniffer dogs catch hashish smuggler
He escaped the cops, but could not escape the cops’ dogs. Police have foiled an attempt by an Arab man to smuggle in 1kg of hashish inside his socks after the police dogs jumped on him, raising alarm at King Fahad Causeway. According to police records, the Arab man concealed hashish inside his socks and sprinkled turmeric to escape sniffer dogs. He almost escaped when dogs surrounded him. Later investigations found that the 27-year-old man was a renowned drug lord who was arrested on multiple occasions for similar crimes. The convict would regularly smuggle drugs into Bahrain and his girlfriend would sell them in the illegal market. The convict’s girlfriend was arrested later after she made frequent calls to his mobile phone. “I bought these drugs in my country and hid them inside my socks before sprinkling turmeric on it to escape sniffer dogs,” he told Prosecutors. The 27-year-old man was handed over 10 years jail term along with a fine of BD5,000, while his girlfriend aged 26, was given a comparatively lighter sentence of six months in jail and BD100 in fine. The Arab man challenged his verdict before the High Appeals Court, which rejected it, confirming the initial verdict. The woman, however, opted against appealing the lower court ruling.
