Bahrain Airport Company profit jumps to BD 13 million

Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), has reported a net profit of BD12.9 million during the period ended 2017, a big jump compared to BD7.6m recorded in the previous year.

“These impressive figures are the result of the immense collaborative efforts between our team and partners as well as improvements made to BIA’s infrastructure and services as part of the ongoing Airport Modernization Programme (AMP),” said Minister of Transportation and Telecommunications and Gulf Air Group (GFG) Chairman, Kamal bin Ahmed Mohammed announcing the results.

The announcement was made during a Ramadan Ghabga held at the Wyndham Grand hotel. The results, the minister said, reflect a 20pc spike in revenues, from BD35m at the end of 2016 to BD42m in 2017.

“This can be attributed to a general increase in BIA’s activities, including a 10pc increase in air cargo traffic during 2017, which not only demonstrates BIA’s capacity to handle significantly large volumes but also reflects the Kingdom’s growing status as a hub for logistics operations in the region,” the minister said.

The minister also said the company witnessed a marked increase in new airlines operating at BIA, including Ethiopian Airlines, Atlas Global Airlines, and Wataniya Airways, which accounts for the increased landing fees and heavy footfall through our retail areas.
