Salmaniya Medical Complex conducts two successful kidney transplants as part of the organ transplantation programme adopted by the Ministry of Health

Two successful kidney transplant surgeries were recently performed at Salmaniya Medical Complex, it emerged. The surgeries are part of the kidney and organ transplantation programme adopted by the Ministry of Health under the constant guidance and support of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to bring experts from around the world to diagnose and treat difficult cases using modern methods. The first donor, a 39-year-old male, gave kidney to his 58-year-old mother, who suffered a renal failure caused by diabetes and was subjected to dialysis, while the second donor, a 41-year-old female, donated her kidney to 47-yearold husband, who was suffering from renal failure due to renal thrombosis. The SMC medical team performed the surgeries in cooperation with a team from Zahrawi Hospital in Jordan.

As many as 11 kidney transplants were performed this year alone and all of them were successful. The Undersecretary stressed that the Health Ministry plans to implement many campaigns that will emphasise on the importance of donating organs to help many patients return to normal life.
