New aviation fuel tank complex to be completed by by 2019 end.
The ministry will complete the transfer of aviation fuel tanks from Arad to the vicinity of Bahrain International Airport by the end of next year, said Transportation and Telecommunication Minister Kamal Ahmed.
In April 2017, Bahrain Aviation Fuelling Company (Bafco) signed an agreement with Bahrain International Airport to move aviation fuel tanks to provide more efficient and smooth fuel supply apart from easy maintenance and operations.
The move also follows the directive of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa. According to ministry sources, the project will cost somewhere in the range of BD30 million and the new tank complex will have four tanks with a total capacity of 32,000 cubic meters, which will last for 21 days.
Bafco - a joint venture between Bahrain Airport Company and National Oil and Gas Authority (Noga) - supervises the management of aviation fuel tanks and its operations. A system of underground tunnels for fuelling pipelines will be introduced in line with the development of Bahrain International Airport, which is expected to raise its capacity to 14 million passengers annually.
Many residents in Arad have aired their fear over the proximity of aviation fuel pipelines to their houses.
