Cats, where have you been?

The battle between rodents and their control team is totally uneven. Sources say there are only 12 specialists within the Environmental Department under the Ministry of Health to tackle three million rodents in the Kingdom. Many citizens and residents have been complaining about huge number of rodents in their areas across the Kingdom.

Many videos showing the rodents ruling the streets have gone viral in the past few months. A citizen, who doesn’t want to be named, said, “The number of rats are increasing day by day and we need to do something about this. We can’t enter beaches because of these rats. They mainly live on leftovers thrown near the beaches. You won’t believe these rodents even attack people who try to kill them.”

The accumulation of garbage in containers and the opening of sewage covers for rain, and illegal sewer connections and water drains, improper disposal of food waste and open toilets are reasons behind the excessive breeding of rodents. There are many infectious diseases caused by rodents. According to Health Ministry, rodents transmit diseases directly from any secretions or urine or rodent pox or indirectly, by the bite of parasites that live on the bodies of rodents to transport bacteria or viruses.
