Dad given permission to see daughter

The fifth Sunni Shari’a court has allowed a girl’s father who had obtained a divorce from his wife to visit his daughter twice a week. The court also ordered the father to provide a monthly amount of BD40 towards the expenses of the family. Lawyer Tarda Ali, representing the man, said he had appealed to cut down the amount by BD10. Ms Ali said her client asked the court to cancel the housing allowance because the petitioner lives in her father’s house. “He is debt-laden and has little income. Moreover, he is a foreign national and has to take care of his family in his country,” she said. The woman petitioner had urged the court to order BD100 a month in housing allowances. The court in its ruling cited Article 62 (a) of Sharia law, which says, “The expense of a young child who has no money shall be owed to his father, until the girl gets married and the son reaches the extent to which he acquires his money.”
