The Bahrain Businesswomen Society dismisses reports on electoral training plans

The Bahrain Businesswomen Society (BBS) yesterday said that a local English newspaper misquoted its President Ahlam Janahi in its report which details the society’s plans to train and educate potential women candidates for the upcoming elections.
The report said that the society will initiate a series of awareness sessions for potential women candidates with the support of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW) and parliament officials to help them prepare to contest for upcoming elections.
The SCW was quick to respond. It denied “Janahi’s statement” regarding the council support towards a series of awareness sessions that are being organised by BBS to promote and assess the potential candidates for the upcoming elections.
“The regulations prevent it to work in the field of politics and in the event of organising such programmes the society will be held accountable.” Meanwhile, the BBS stressed that its work is purely social and the objective behind the co-operation with SCW is to empower women economically.
