Expat hides drugs in dal meal, nabbed at airport
A Bangladeshi man attempted to smuggle illicit drugs and narcotic pills into Bahrain by hiding them in dal meal and chicken broth, the court heard. The defendant was caught at the Bahrain International Airport, where his flight landed from Bangladesh. According to court documents, the Bangladeshi man was paid BD200 by a fellow countryman to commit the crime. “My friend proposed the idea of smuggling drugs for BD200. I accepted and one of my friends helped me in hiding drugs and pills in dal meal and chicken broth. I thought that was sufficient to get the job done,” the Bangladeshi man told prosecutors after he was arrested.
Prosecutors said that the defendant was in possession of a whopping number of 900 pills which were weighing a total of 191.6 grams. He also had with him marijuana which was hidden in a plastic bag containing flour. The Bangladeshi man was captured on April 3, 2018, according to court records. The defendant is facing drug smuggling charges and a possible life sentence if he is convicted by the High Criminal Court, before which he is standing trial. His hearing is scheduled for September 12, 2018.
