Students say that the new grading system in UoB aims at making them leave the university

Many students at the University of Bahrain (UoB) are upset with the decision to reduce the number chances to improve their grades from five to three, which, they say is aimed at pressurising them to leave the university. The students have taken to social media to express their disagreement with the university administration. They claim it is an attempt to intimidate them and make them leave the university, especially in light of the university strength growing above a whopping 30,000.
“These rules are extremely unjust. Many students would prefer against joining the university to avoid wasting years here,” said a student Mohamed Ali Al Qassas.
Describing the new rules as deterrent to the students, Amr Mustafa, a student, said, “I cannot study six or seven subjects in one term. I prefer studying four to five subjects without pressure or stress. But according to new rules If I fail in a subject twice, I could be dismissed.”
Abdulaziz Al Hemry, a differently abled student, who is also a student council member, said the university administration every now and then keeps coming up with rules to pressure students. “There are no rules to make teachers accountable here and there are many teachers who don’t even possess proper qualifications. They only keep on pressuring students,” he pointed out. He said the new average ratio system is totally unacceptable to students. “If a student who failed in a subject by getting F grade, receives A grade in the improvement exam, his final grade would be C. This is nothing but a depressing move.”
