Fisherman gets 10 years jail term for selling drugs

A Bahraini fisherman , caught selling drugs, was given a jail term of 10 years and a fine of BD5000. The High Criminal Court said in its verdict that it decided to give the man a lighter sentence after granting him clemency  owing to the circumstances surrounding the lawsuit.  The man, aged 30, was arrested after police received an anonymous tip-off on his activities. He was taken into custody, while he was waiting to sell drugs to his clients. Based on the information received, an officer in plain clothes, who was tasked to catch him red-handed, approached him and offered to buy drugs worth BD100 from him. “He offered me to buy drugs worth BD100 when he called me,” the 30-year-old suspect confessed to prosecutors.  “We agreed to meet in a place and I  gave him the drugs,” he added. Soon after, he was caught red-handed by a team of Police officers. “After searching him, we found BD180 from him, including the amount the undercover agent handed him,” a police officer participated in the operation told the prosecutors. He further revealed that the police team also recovered 29 pieces of hashish of different sizes from the suspect’s car.
