880 trained on human rights principles

Secretary-General of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), Dr Khalifa Al Fadhel, has stressed that training national competencies on human rights principles is a priority for the NIHR.

He said that the NIHR’s Secretariat-General has trained 880 individuals during the second quarter of this year, marking an increase of 132 per cent compared with the same period last year.

He noted that the beneficiaries included law enforcement staff, academicians, consultants, and trade unions, in addition to civil society organisations, students, human rights activists, private and commercial institutions.

Al Fadhel asserted that the training programmes aim to promote the human rights culture among all social segments. He also welcomed cooperation with the Asia Pacific Forum for National Human Rights Institutions (APF) and other organisations.
