New waste policy to be planned as garbage bins overflow

Bahrain’s households produce more waste than the country’s commercial, industrial and green waste combined, according to an official statistics. Authorities are now gearing up to implement a new waste management strategy as the waste produced in the Kingdom continues to pile up.
Minister of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning Essam Khalaf said that gathering and studying the statistics related to waste is necessary in understanding how to reduce waste produced in the Kingdom.
Another study to further understand the waste in Bahrain and to collect updated data is ongoing, said Bob Doig, a waste management adviser who works with the Ministry and Estidama - a waste management centre, which comes under the Ministry. He said that a new strategy to tackle waste across Bahrain will soon be in place.
