Expat robbery gang jailed for five years

Four Bangladeshi men, aged between 27 and 30, formed a robbery gang in 2017 to steal money and mobile phones, court files revealed. The four are said to have lured their victims to isolated areas, where they attacked them in a bid to rob their valuables. Their last robbery occurred on August 4, 2017, in which they robbed nearly BD300 and a mobile phone from two men.

This incident, however, landed them in police net. The victims told police officers that one of the four took them to a car park, where they committed the crime.  “The first defendant took me to a car park in Muharraq, where the other three surrounded me,” one of the victims told prosecutors. The four men are said to have physically attacked their victims in their bid to terrify them hand over the valuables.

“I had BD110 and 100 Saudi riyal with me and my friend (the second victim) had BD180 with him. We gave everything to them along with a mobile phone. The fourth defendant told us that he was working with the Criminal Investigation Department before leaving the place,” he added.  The defendants were tried before the High Criminal Court which ordered them to be imprisoned for five years each. They will be deported from Bahrain once they serve their jail terms.
