Mystery shrouds expat’s murder

Friends and relatives of the murdered expat are in a state of confusion after coming to know that an Arab national was arrested in connection with the case. Abdul Nahas, 31, was brutally beaten to death last week at his apartment in Hoora and police have arrested a 42-year-old suspect, who is an Arab national. A relative of Abdul, who doesn’t want to be identified, said Abdul’s personal network were limited to people from the Indian state of Kerala. “He was a quiet individual. In my knowledge, he never had any associations with citizens or Arab nationals,” he said. According to rumours that disseminated among the community members, the suspect is a loan shark and the victim had taken huge amounts from him, which he failed to pay back.

“It’s hard to believe such rumours. I spoke to him a day before he got killed. He was cool and did not seem to me that his life was in danger. Had there been any death threats he would have informed me.” A thorough gentleman, sources say Abdul never had any criminal past, be it in the Kingdom or in his home state. Sources said he was in a relationship with a woman, who “left him more than a week ago”. “He lived a quiet life and never mixed with wrong people.

His friends were all decent people. None had any complaints about him.” The Director-General of Criminal Investigation and Forensic Science announced on Thursday the arrest of an Arab national in connection with the case. “The suspect tied him and attacked him with a hammer.” The Director-General had added that legal proceedings were being taken and the case had been referred to the Public Prosecution.
