Bahrain bag medals in Special Olympics

The Bahrain team made the country proud by winning 21 medals in the Special Olympics World Games held at Los Angeles from July 25 to August 2.
The Bahrain team participated in four events –athletics, table tennis, swimming and equestrian. They won five gold, eight silver and eight bronze medals, informed National Director of Special Olympics Mohammed Al-Maatoug.
Hamad Altamimi won gold medal in 800 meter run. He was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team, which bagged gold. In swimming, Ebrahim Alali won gold in 25-meter freestyle. In Equestrian Team Relays (2 members), Komail Almoqahwi and Ahmed Abdulla won gold for Bahrain.
Aysha Alsubei won gold medal in 200 meter run and she was also a member of the 4x100 meter relay team, which won gold.
The Bahrain Special Olympics team returned to the Kingdom on Wednesday and was given a heroic welcome by the Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation.
Over 7,000 athletes from 177 countries took part in the Special Olympics World Games being held every two years in which athletes compete in 25 sports events.
Bahrain Disabled Sports Federation (BDSF) Chairman Shaikh Mohammed bin Daij Al-Khalifa led the official delegation to the Summer Special Olympics.
Deputy delegation head Mohammed Al-Maatoug, administrator Khalil Jamal, table tennis team coach Nasser Kawaz, athletics coach Moussa Hassan, equestrian coach Sayyed Adnan, among others were part of the delegation, in addition to 11 players and athletes.
Bahrain team was congratulated by Abd Al Jaleel Asaad on behalf of Representative of His Majesty the King for Charity Work and Youth Affairs, chairman of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports and President of Bahrain Olympic Committee Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
