33-year-old arrested on King Fahad Causeway while trying to enter Bahrain with drugs hidden in car

A GCC national was sentenced to five years in prison along with a fine of BD3,000 by the High Criminal Court yesterday for attempting to smuggle drugs into the Kingdom. The 33-year-old man was arrested on King Fahad Causeway while he was trying to enter Bahrain with drugs hidden in his car. He was carrying 50 narcotic pills, which he intended to sell to two Bahraini young men, aged 19 and 22 years old. The GCC man turned on his customers during questioning by the customs officers. The Bahraini pair were nabbed in an operation after the GCC man offered help to police officers.

They landed in police net while they were trying to receive the drugs from the GCC man. “I received a phone call from him (the GCC man). He told me that the drugs were ready. He came to us and he handed over the drugs,” the 22-year-old defendant told prosecutors. “When we gave him the money, suddenly police officers appeared and arrested us,” he added.

The duo, however, received a lighter jail sentence of six months in prison each along with a fine of BD500 each.
