Woman ‘dupes’ Kuwaiti investor of BD60,000 over real estate deal
A Kuwaiti investor claimed that he was cheated by a female con artist here lately, alleging that he was conned out of around BD60,000 in a hoax real estate deal. The victim filed a complaint with the Public Prosecution against the Bahraini woman, whom he said sold him a residential building in Hamala for BD112,000 while the actual market value of the property is only BD55,000. The woman allegedly showed pictures and blueprints of a different property to the victim, knowing the fact that he isn’t familiar with the Kingdom’s areas.
“I was promised that the building is located in a prominent spot and is close to commercial outlets and other facilities. But in reality, the building is in a bad shape, uninhabitable and is surrounded by unpaved roads and mud,” the victim claimed in his complaint, which Tribune obtained a copy of.
Tribune also spoke to Lawyer Nafeesa Da’bal yesterday, who represents the victim in court and explained that “the accused persuaded the victim by claiming that the monthly income from the building is BD2,400, which was later discovered to be only BD600”. The attorney also said that “the con woman claimed to be the owner of a well-known real estate agency here and later turned out to be only an employee in the company”.
