Man arrested for torturing cat

A man was arrested after a video, which showed him torturing a cat at his home went viral on social media. The arrest follows a complaint filed by the Bahrain Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (BSPCA) with local police. The video shows him hitting the cat several times with various objects, while the poor animal tries to escape the attack. He would also chase the animal around the room, throwing several objects at it. 

The cat’s attempt to hide under the sofa also ended in vain as the man pulled the animal out and continued torture. Allegedly, it was his friend who recorded the incident and posted it on social media. BSPCA chairman Mahmood Faraj told Tribune that the person was arrested two hours after the video was posted on social media. 

Mr Faraj said, “We do not know why he was torturing the cat, that is for the police to find out and deal with. “We do not get these kind of cases very often. They are aware that the authorities will take strict action against anyone involved in cruelty towards animals.”

Soon after the video was posted, many animal lovers expressed their outrage by posting comments condemning the act. “This is a sick behaviour, someone should hit him how he is hitting the cat,” said an Instagram comment.
