Teenager jailed for attacking officer at Duraz police checkpoint

A Bahraini teenager will spend a one year behind bars after the High Criminal Court convicted him of attacking a police officer at a security point in Duraz in 2016.

According to court records, the 17-year-old boy attempted to force through a security checkpoint set up in Duraz to ensure public order in the village. The boy also assaulted an officer, who tried to stop him, before fleeing the scene. He, however, was arrested and put on trial after crime scene experts managed to gather pieces of evidence that allowed police officers to identify him.

“I was in the security point monitoring the situation when he came to us and tried to forcibly pass. He pushed me to the ground when I tried to stop him,” the victim told prosecutors. According to a medical report, the victim suffered bruises on his back from the attack. The defendant was tried before the High Criminal Court. C
