Duo jailed for attacking cop in Bahrain
Manama : Two men have been sentenced for attacking police officers on patrol duty in Salmabad in an inebriated state. The duo is said to have attacked the officers on duty after they were questioned for parking their vehicle on the roadside at around 3 am in the morning.
“When I saw the vehicle, I suspected there was something wrong with it. I went there and I found a man inside. I knocked the car window and he made a gesture with his hand asking me to move away,” the officer, who was attacked, told prosecutors.
“I showed my ID and asked him whether he was under the influence of alcohol. I asked for his ID and he said it was none of my business. Suddenly another person came from nowhere and began attacking me. “I sought help from my colleagues and thus saved myself,” the police officer said.
The duo was arrested and tried before the High Criminal Court, which sentenced the man who was inside the car to one month in prison. The man who attacked the police officer was handed down six months in prison.
