Nearly 2,000 firms employ engineers with no licences

Thousands of ‘engineers’ employed by nearly 2,000 violating companies have been provided with a grace period of two months to obtain licence in order to continue with their jobs.

The Council for Regulating the Practice of Engineering Professions (CRPEP) is currently engaged in a massive crackdown with an aim to curb the issue of unlicensed engineers working in the private sector as it poses a danger to the society.

In recent months, warning letters have been sent to nearly 2,000 violating companies, which employ unlicensed engineers. However, it is not clear how many ‘unlicensed engineers’ work for these companies.

Sources said it is against the law to work as an engineer without obtaining the necessary licence. A spokesperson from the council told Tribune that crackdown has been intensified.
