University ‘assigned dead teacher to supervise master’s degree theses
Assigning a dead teacher to supervise a master’s degree thesis was one of the main violations reportedly committed by a leading university, whose licence for a particular MBA course was revoked.
Around 80 students are in complete panic and distress after learning that they would need to repeat their MBA course due to the irregularities the Higher Education Council spotted against their university.
They were at the cusp of graduation when they learned that they would need to do the courses all over again after their university was penalised by authorities.
According to the Higher Education Council (HEC), Arab Open University is accountable to a number of violations. The university was urged to correct the irregularities and ensure that the violators are held accountable.
The council stated that the current board of trustees must also be held accountable. Affected students can visit the HEC General Secretariat to submit the refund application to receive a refund of the tuition fee paid to the university.
HEC acting secretary-general Dr Mona Al Balooshi said that refunding students is not enough and the university would need to address the irregularities.
