Allegations against Kalam Centre dismissed as baseless

Vested interests and devious personalities are behind the defamation campaign against the New Delhi-based Kalam Centre, its members stated yesterday.

Allegations against the centre set up to carry through the vision of late former Indian president A P J Abdul Kalam, is completely baseless, said Srijan Pal Singh, who runs the centre. The unsubstantiated claims are far from reality and was devised with selfish interests in mind, he claimed.

Contrary to the claims made the centre has never sought funding from Bahrain or anywhere outside India, he said. It was also claimed that Mr Singh who handles Dr Kalam’s Twitter handle misused the account for financial gains.

“Give me any example of any tweet where I have tried to sell any product for financial gains. It is impossible to find such a tweet because all of the messages there are only to promote Dr Kalam’s vision,” he said, refuting the claims.

He confirmed that he has documented evidences to support his claim that Dr Kalam authorised him to handle the Twitter account.

In a telephonic interview with Tribune yesterday, he explained that no money was ever raised from outside India.

“In Bahrain, the idea of the centre was that we bring together all those people who were Dr Kalam’s good friends, so when Dr Kalam came to Bahrain and I was with him at the time and we got connected with all those people to promote his vision and that’s all what we did.”
