Something fishy, many expat vendors allegedly selling chemical-laced rotten fish across the streets of the Kingdom

Local fishmongers have repeated their warnings to consumers, advising them to be beware of illegal street fish sellers who roam the roads in the Kingdom selling fish to customers at their doorsteps.

The vendors claim that the illegal sellers, mostly of Asian nationalities, cheat their customers by tampering with scales and selling them rotten fish, sometimes laced with chemicals.

These warnings were reiterated after many reports emerged on social media over the consumers being cheated by these street vendors.

The topic instantly became one of the most discussed on all social media networks. A short video clip has become viral in which a woman is seen describing how she was cheated by an Asian street vendor who sold her fish on the street.

In the one-minute video, the woman is seen removing metal pieces (nails) from the fish she claimed she had bought from the Asian vendor. She said “at least three nails are poked into and hidden inside the fish’s bowels to increase the weight at the time of purchase”.

As the street vendors are constantly seen walking around from one area to another, netizens predicted that it’s unlikely for the woman to meet the same seller again. It wasn’t verified where the video was filmed, but similar incidents were recently reported in Kuwait as well.

The authorities there announced that they have launched a campaign to comb all fish markets to ensure that sellers are not cheating, especially after more than one consumer complained about finding nails inside fish.
