Philippines ballet galore

Manama

Bahrain will get a taste of Philippines’ rich ballet culture when Ballet Philippines (BP), a touring contemporary dance company to highlight Philippine ballet, perform their show ‘Masterpieces’ tomorrow.  Led by artistic director Paul Alexander Morales, the show features a dazzling selection of the company’s most acclaimed works throughout its 45-year history, from timeless classical and neoclassical works to modern and contemporary dance pieces, and excerpts from full-length modern ballet performances.

The show is scheduled to be held at 8pm on Aug 10, as part of Bahrain Summer Festival, at the Bahrain National Theatre in cooperation with the Bahrain Authority for Culture and Antiquities (BACA).

After touring the US West Coast and Canada last season, BP is bringing its critically acclaimed ‘Masterpieces’ to four cities in the Middle East – Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha and Manama.

Founded in 1969 by Alice Reyes with the support of Eddie Elejar and the Cultural Centre of the Philippines,BP  is widely recognised as a cornerstone of the Philippine cultural identity.

Its audience represents a cross-section of Manila's populace and includes visitors from around the country and around the world. Each year, outreach and educational programs introduce new generations of audience members not only to dance, but also to music and visual art. BP's official school – the CCP Dance School – continues to produce dancers of international calibre. Ballet Philippines is globally recognized as the country's flagship company in ballet and contemporary dance.

With a treasure trove of over 400 works, BP's wide ranging, eclectic repertory is unparalleled in Asia. From full-length classical ballets and internationally recognised masterworks to indigenous works of Philippine folklore and social issues, the company weaves a colorful tapestry of the Philippines’ rich and diverse cultural heritage.  After performing in Bahrain, the company will head to Doha.
