Court orders man to pay BD180 in monthly alimony

Manama : After 33 years of marriage, a retiree shocked his wife and sons alike with his decision to get married for the second time, the court heard. “He didn’t just do it, but he also left his wife and sons without pocket money, while made his second wife live in a fully furnished house.” Distraught, the first wife took her husband to court to get pocket money for her and her sons apart from a fully- furnished house. And the Lower Sunni Court accepted her requests, ordering her husband to pay BD180 on monthly basis to her and their sons, as well as another BD180 twice a year for Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Adha.

“My client’s husband re f u s e d t o furnish their house despite 33 years of marriage together. She was forced to do it from the savings she made from her low income while she was working as a cleaner in schools. She was helped by their sons after they began working,” lawyer Huda Al Sha’er said. “A large part of the house remained unfurnished and without maintenance to the point that the ceiling started collapsing. “However, her husband, despite the difficult living conditions, refused to help them. My client was patient with him out of her desire to protect their family ties,” she added.
