Expat acquitted of selling drugs
Manama : The Lower Criminal Court acquitted an Asian man of selling drugs due to lack of proof. The defendant was put on trial after he was arrested in connection with peddling banned narcotics. However, the absence of an arrest warrant combined with conflicting testimonies offered by eyewitnesses helped the defendant to walk free.
According to court files, the defendant was captured after a police tip-off revealed that he was peddling narcotics on a public road. Prosecutors said that an undercover agent planned a special operation, and the man was nabbed. However, the defendant’s lawyer Zainab Sabt questioned the claims against her client, branding the sequence of the events leading to her client’s arrest as irrational. She also stated that the defendant’s apartment was searched without an inspection warrant.
