Expat couple jailed for bid to dupe car dealer of BD700,000
A couple - British man and Turkish woman - landed in police net after attempting to dupe a local car dealer to the tune of BD700,000 on the pretext of buying luxury cars using counterfeit credit cards. The General Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security had begun investigations into the use of counterfeit cards by a gang involved in embezzling money from ATMs after forging card authorisation numbers after receiving a tip-off.
While investigations were underway, a company assigned to issue credit cards sent one of their representatives to police to file a complaint after receiving a call from a local car dealer.
The dealer had alerted the company after being approached by a couple with a request to buy luxury cars worth nearly BD700,000 using credit cards.
