For the love of music, from Western classical violin to Eastern Carnatic music, Kayan has completed a rare musical odyssey
A Bahraini musician has broken all stereotypes in the music industry by bridging the gap between the Western and Eastern music.
Noor Faisal, popularly known as Kayan, has achieved many feats at a young age of 31, which other musicians would be certainly envious of. Kayan was selected to perform and represent and be part of the Musical Mosaic at the Presidential Palace and United Nations to pay tribute to Mahatma Gandhi on its 150th birth anniversary.
She is one of the few Arab women who could play South Indian classical violin and vocal.
“My journey with music began almost 10 years ago. When I was younger, I was inquisitive and interested in sounds. I would listen closely and deeply to various Eastern and Western genres of music. As a teenager, I took up the Western classical violin and began exploring different styles of music and experimenting with various instruments. One of the genres, which excited me the most, was South Indian Carnatic music in which the violin played a central role.”
