Private hospital theft convicts lose appeal

Two men who stole 20 medical prescriptions from a private hospital will serve one year behind bars each after the High Criminal Appeals Court upheld their conviction.

The duo told the court earlier that they didn’t remember the events leading to theft as they were under the influence of alcohol.

And their lawyer Islam Abdulrahman Ghunaim argued that his clients should be acquitted of theft owing to the fact that the intent to commit a crime didn’t exist as they weren’t fully conscious.

Alternatively, lawyer Ghunaim suggested to the court that his clients be given clemency apart from replacing their jail terms with social service or to reduce their sentences to three months in prison each.
