Beacon Private School becomes first in the Middle East to enact Common Ground Collaborative Curriculum
Beacon Private School becomes the first in the Middle East to observe Common Ground Collaborative (CGC) Curriculum.
Dedicated to tackling issues arising from disconnected curriculums, the CGC is a global network of educators committed to sharing common principles.
Speaking to Tribune, Dr Samir Chammaa, Head of the Consultancy and Development Committee of Beacon Private School, revealed the drive behind the debut of the CGC Curriculum for the Middle East.
“The school has opted for a curriculum in which the students learn through inquiry, in all subjects, and at all grade levels. The students inquire and solve problems to learn the various subjects, rather than learning subjects from lecturing. They then use their knowledge to solve problems. This curriculum has been adopted because it represents the way to keep learning in a world where knowledge is in continuous development and change,” revealed Dr Chammaa.
The Beacon School has adopted an educational model of teaching and learning based on inquiry and collaborative work. Having expressed confidence that this model will help students develop higher order and critical thinkers, and be prepared to perform jobs that may not be currently available.
“It is well known that most of the current existing professions will be replaced by other professions in the coming 15 years. This means that if we focus on teaching the concepts and skills needed by today’s technologies, our students will not be prepared for the concepts and skills needed in 15 years,” Dr Chammaa said.
Followed in numerous parts of the world, the inspiration to establish the CGC Curriculum arose from well-known international schools in Scandinavian countries and other European countries such as Holland, Belgium, Switzerland, and Austria.
