Labour Minister reassures protection, care to elderly
Manama : Labour and Social Development Minister, Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan, yesterday visited the Muharraq Social Welfare Centre to share the Eid Al-Adha joy with the elderly. The minister, who was accompanied by the members of the National Committee for the Elderly and Board members of the Muharraq Social Welfare Centre, congratulated the inmates of the centre, exchanged cordial talks with them and got assured about their health and living conditions.
Eid gifts were also presented to the elderly, which filled their hearts with joy and happiness. The labour minister stressed the government’s keenness on providing the best services, as well as social, health, legal and rehabilitation programmes for the elderly, in cooperation with non-government organisations (NGOs) and the private sector, in order to ensure a decent living for them. The government’s interest in the elderly is embodied in the varied services provided for the elderly by the Labour and Social Development Ministry, he said, noting that they enjoy all kinds of protection and care.
Humaidan stressed the need to enhance coordination and cooperation between the Labour and Social Development Ministry and the National Committee for the Elderly to develop elderly-oriented programmes, with the participation of the relevant government and private sector parties. The minister was informed about the quality services provided by the Muharraq Social Welfare Centre to meet the elderly’s needs, lauding the efforts exerted by the centre’s staff in this regard.
