MPs demand impartial commission to probe into fake degrees

Members of Parliament and Shura Council have called for the formation of a neutral commission to probe into recent allegations of fake degrees, especially following the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa to verify reports on degrees awarded by fake or unrecognised universities outside the Kingdom.
Shura Member Shaikh Adel Al Maawda supported the directives of HRH the Premier, stressing the need to translate these directives to remove those who have obtained positions as a result of these fake degrees. He quoted Prophet Mohammed’s (PBUH) Hadith: “The one who creates a false impression of receiving what one has not been given is like one who wears two garments of falsehood.”

“There are two things that should be differentiated with regard to fake degrees. First is whether the holders have obtained them through charlatanry or the universities awarding the degrees are recognised in the Kingdom. “The probe must be carried out with retrospective effect, and it should include who brought them to these positions with unrecognised degrees. “The Ministry of Education is aware of this unfortunate reality, and it must take the initiative to address this issue, and disclose all reasons behind these scams by a committee after investigating into this matter. “The neutral committee can have qualified staff from the Ministry of Education under the supervision of the government who can directly investigate this issue.”

Member of Parliament Adel Al Assomi supported the formation of an impartial commission of inquiry into the issue of fake degrees representing all official bodies concerned, with the involvement of civil society organisations as well as doctors and engineers and other specialists to deal with the issue from its roots and not to keep the ember in the ashes.
