Over one million in Kerala relief camps

All Bahrainis in Kerala safe, affirms the Kingdom’s Consul General in Mumbai

With Kerala limping back to normalcy after devastating floods and landslides, the focus is now on taking care of the one million people staying in relief camps and rehabilitating people whose houses were destroyed in the deluge.

The Indian expatriates in Bahrain have pitched in to help the flood-hit Kerala by offering relief to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund (CMDRF).   “The floods have forced more than a million of our people into relief camps, many of whom will be able to return to their homes once they become habitable again after sanitation,” Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said yesterday.  Government has decided to distribute kits having essential items to people returning to their homes from relief camps. People can also donate items for these kits through the site: https:// keralarescue.in/district_needs/.

Social Welfare Department has an urgent requirement of approximately 5,000 pieces of wheelchairs, crutches and hearing aids each to support its efforts across Kerala. Pinarayi Vijayan said the government is mulling loans for refurnishing the flood-hit houses. He informed that these loans, which can go up to one lakh, will be provided on an interest-free basis to female head of the family, and interest will be borne by the government.
