Supermodel’s electoral dreams spark debate over candidates’ backgrounds

Bahraini model Al Mohrah, popularly known as Al Mohrah Al Bahrainia, has revealed her decision to be part of the Kingdom’s democratic process. Aged 27, Al Mohrah has said that she planned to contest 2022 elections as 30 is the minimum age set by the electoral laws in Bahrain.

The Bahraini public was surprised by the supermodel’s move. While many criticized her on social media, describing that “elections are not a joke”, others welcomed. “I will run for elections to the House of Representatives in 2022 and will choose Sanad as my constituency,” she wrote in her SnapChat account. “Elect me in the future because I am worthy and deserve to represent you. I am praying to God to be elected as the people’s representative,” she added.

The supermodel’s electoral agenda include repairing roads, carrying out developmental work and of course, “getting rid of stray dogs from the area”. Al Mohrah is a popular model and fashion blogger in the region. She is also known for her controversial views and perspectives.

Earlier, she said that she would become the first woman to drive in Saudi Arabia. She chose to drive her Mercedes on Al Tahlia Street in Riyadh – a street allegedly used by youths to perform car stunts. The supermodel who underwent cosmetic procedures posted “before and after” pictures on SnapChat inviting wrath from many.

She got married to a Kuwaiti multi-millionaire Adel Al Musallam, who gifted her a private jet with ‘Al Mohrah Al Bahrainia’ engraved on each seat. Later, Adel was accused in drug cases and was charged with dealing in drugs. It is also alleged that Adel’s fortunes worth millions of dollars were made out of drug trade.
