Fake versus real!

Despite alert calls over many using fake certificates to obtain positions in the public and private sector, the Ministry of Education has not come up with “its list of recognised universities abroad”, it is learnt.

The ministry only maintains a list of recommended institutions, which are mainly universities owned or managed by the governments of different countries, according to ministry sources. Sources said the ministry many a time began its efforts to come up with a list of recognised institutions, but failed in completing the list.

“If a student approaches the ministry to enquire about the recognised universities outside the country, the officials there will offer a list of recommended universities, which are basically government institutions,” a source told Tribune, on grounds of anonymity.

“Basically, the ministry’s knowledge about the universities is limited to government institutions in Arab countries including Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Jordan. When it comes private universities outside the region, the ministry staff are totally ignorant, for they don’t maintain a list.”
